Brief History of the Market (Nick Janes, Rochford Market)

 

A Charter was granted by Henry III in 1257 to hold a market weekly, on a Tuesday. 

 

The current Tuesday market was reopened under the charter in 1977 by Mr Reginald Janes (my father).

​

The first market was held on held Tuesday 11th October 1977 and has being continuously held ever since.

​

Management of the market transferred to myself, Nick Janes in November 2005 on behalf of Reg's widow Hilda. Rights to hold the market passed down to Nick Janes and my sister Rebecca Townsend on the death of Hilda in 2017
